Annie Lennox has paenned a heartfelt and moving tribute to her friend and collaborator, David Bowie - read it in full below.
The Eurythmics frontwoman was a longtime friend of Bowie, having delivered a now iconic performance of 'Under Pressure' with the Thin White Duke at a tribute concert to Freddie Mercury.
Now, shocked by the news of Bowie's death from cancer aged 69, Lennox has taken to Facebook to honour him - speaking of her sadness at the world's loss, and the heartache of realising Blackstar would be his last album.
"Like a gazillion other people, I feel stunned by the news that David Bowie has departed this earth," she wrote. "At the loss of someone who has impacted and influenced your life, you can hardly begin to measure the shape of what’s left behind.
"Our personal and collective inner landscape has shifted and we’re trying to come to terms with it. No one exists forever and it seems our elegant gentleman was well aware that his last mortal chapter was about to reach it's conclusion.
"Blackstar" was his parting gift.
"Provocative and nightmarishly “otherworldly”… we are jolted towards the twilight realms of epileptic seizures and voodoo scarecrows.
"The bejewelled remains of Major Tom lie dormant in a dust coated space suit…
"It leaves me breathless.
"You must see it to believe it…
"He knew…
"He could see through it all."
Since his death, 13 of Bowie's albums are dominating the UK charts.
Meanwhile, friends and collaborators Placebo have also paid tribute to Bowie, as has Queen's Brian May, producer Tony Visconti, as well as the likes of Foo Fighters, Iggy Pop, Kanye West, Brian Eno and many more.
