A special tribute concert has been announced in memory of David Bowie, and is to take place on his birthday.

The show will also be in Bowie's place of birth, South London, organiser and close friend, Gary Oldman has revealed.

Sunday 8 January is the date that has been set, and will see a whole host of close friends, past bandmates and collaborators take to the stage of Brixton Academy.

In memory of David Bowie, the shows are set to take place all over the world, in cities that have a "special connection" with the singer and his music.

Each show is said to feature 30 core musicians, as well as, around “40 or more local musicians, to create a sound like no other”.

Bowie's close friend, Gary Oldman, who gave an emotional speech at the 2016 Brit Awards, will lead the London edition.

Covering his career from 1973 onwards, the nights will see a lot of familiar faces in the way of ex touring musicians.

The musicians will have featured on Ziggy Stardust, right up to his last album, Blackstar.

Fans will see former Bowie band members, Mike Garson, Earl Slick, Adrian Belew, Mark Plati, Gerry Leonard, Gail Ann Dorsey, Sterling Campbell, Zachary Alford, Holly Palmer and Catherine Russell at the first date in Brixton.

It is believed that many other special guests are yet to be announced.

Tickets for the tribute show go on priority sale from 9am on Wednesday 16 November, general will be from the same time on 18 November.
