In a recent interview James Hetfield of Metallica fame has vocally stated that fellow metal band Motorhead need to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
Hetfield insists in the interview with 95.5 Klos, that it is “Very important to have the band inducted and they deserve that accolalde”, especially after the death of their founder and frontman/bassist Lemmy.
The UK’s Motorhead have been eligible since 2002, but remain unelected for inclusion. Hetfield and Metallica got their nod in 2009 and his push may well see the band get their chance to enter the hallowed hall.
"There are so many great bands that haven't been acknowledged - and if they do or don't, it's not up to me. It's just a nod, a tip of the cap. What does it really mean to be in there? I don't know. But to some of these bands it might mean the world. With the passing of Lemmy, it's really, really important for me to see Motorhead acknowledged in that - because there's no more rock 'n' roll person on this planet than Lemmy," he said.
Lemmy (real name Ian Kilmister) is indeed one of the most well-known and legendary rockers of all time. He famously drank everything under the sun and partied night and day until his death. His was the ultimate rock and roll life and one every rock fans can only dream of.
Lemmy may be gone but he will never be forgotten, his image has been cast in iron at his favourite US bar/club, and his bandmates Phil Campbell (lead guitar) and Mikky Dee (drums) have been striving to get a beer released in honour of them. They are working to to get a Pale Ale named after thier song 'Road Crew' released.
Meanwhile, Metallica have just finished a South and Central American tour and release their album Hardwired To Self Destruct this Friday. They will celebrate the release with a show at 850 cap, House of Vans in London. Tickets were allocated via a competition and all proceeds will be given to charity.
