London may not have a scene in the traditional sense of the word. But it does have a lot of great bands making music here despite sky rocketing ents through gentrification threatening the very fabric of its existence as a world-leading creative hub.
Staying strong in the face of this increasingly challenging city to live in are Ultimate Painting who are one of the city's brightest psych pop groups. Their seemingly effortless harmonic connection between co-vocalists James Hoare and Jack Cooper has a 60s quality to it. Their neatly crafted songs put them up there with musicians we've come to idolise such as Donovan, Syd Barrett, and the gentler side of The Kinks.
Underneath the warm vocals are simple but effective drums shimmering clean delay and reverb strewn guitar and the gentle hum of a tape machine rolling in the background showing a respect for the technology that made their heroes records great.
Their last album, Green Lanes was one of out albums of the year last year, and Dusk is already looking like one that'll make the cut in our list and many others.
