The artistically twisted video is epic to say the least

The next phase of The Weeknd is now upon us. Going from faceless wonder kid who gave the world the classic House of Balloons mixtape, to pop phenomenon whose 50 Shades of Grey single 'Earned It' won him a Grammy, the Canadian R&B star is undergoing yet another change musically and physically.

After setting the internet on fire when he revealed a new image of himself missing his trademark locks, it was then the release of his new single 'Starboy' alongside Daft Punk that had tongues wagging. Dark and electronically dominated, while it's not the first time we've heard The Weeknd like this, there appears to be more conviction this time around, like this is something that's going to stick.

Now revealing the song's music video - a video that was nominated for an MTV EMA before it was even released - it's obvious that The Weeknd really is championing change. Opening with a scene that sees a masked man choke the former version of The Weeknd, it is then revealed that the masked man is the new 'Starboy' version of of the same person. Dancing his way down the halls of his former self's home in a Michael Jackson 'Bad' type manner - something we've never before seen from the usually reserved performer - he wrecks the home and any evidence of the life before him, hops in a sports car with a black cat that later becomes a wildcat, and drives off into the hills.

The Weeknd's highly anticipated new album, which is also called Starboy, is due for release 25 November.
