If there was any justice in the world art rockers The Duke Spirit would have made the Mercury Prize shortlist this year. Their album KIN and in particular the song ‘Blue and Yellow Light’ became a firm Gigwise favourite after being recommended by Brett Anderson of Suede in an interview earlier this year.

Their latest release ‘Sernade’ is taken from a new EP fo the same name that they just announced today. It’s going to be out physically and digitally on 14 October.

Of the EP’s theme, singer Liela Moss says Serenade is a “collection of songs that share the sense of running out of time to fix things, fix people - they are a tide slipping away from fingers…”

This sentiment is traceable on listening to the track above but the ethereal vocals and shimmering guitars offer a sweet contrast to the heaviness of the theme. It’s easily up there with the best stuff on KIN.

It seems Duke Spirit are late bloomers. Although they have had success since forming in 2003, they’ve never sounded as good as they do in 2016. They're easily one of Britian’s finest.

The Duke Spirit head out on tour in October. These will be some of the best shows of next month so don’t miss them. Check here for ticket information
