Canadian songwriter A. Dyjecinski (EH-DEE-YEAH-CHIN-SKI) has unveiled the video to 'Grenades' taken from his album The Valley of Yessiree. You can watch it first on Gigwise below.
Dyjecinski explains the tune:"We are separated from other living organisms by the firm belief that our imagined world is true. In keeping with the concepts of solitude, loneliness, and metamorphosis (all reoccurring themes in the videos as well as the LP) Grenades was written in the backdrop of winter and isolation and begins to introduce paranoia and depression as the guiding force in the narrative catching the moment solitude forms a prison drawing into question preconceptions of freedom, self, and memories as worthy companions. The mind deteriorates in the same way the wealthy become bankrupt, slowly at first, then all at once."
Hearing the fragile vocals coupled with intense soundscapes that somehow mirror the stark landscape of an uninhabited remote place - nature is evidently a powerful influence throughout. In terms of conventional musical references it's similarly emotionally poignant and raw to Nick Cave. His voice is also reminiscent of New Zealand newcomer Marlon Williams. Except the sound effects that float over the top of the core will make him more of an appeal to fans of more experimental music.
The video plays on a theme of domestic loneliness as cameras portray a woman stuck in the house and in empty streets and in a bathtub filled, bizarely, with black water. It's not a happy scene but is an effective visual that heightens the impact of the song.
