This week, online music platform Bandcamp announced that it would be donating 100% of their shares made from sales today (Friday February 3) to American Civil Liberties Union.
The music service made the decision in a way of fighting against President Donald Trump's executive order banning immigrants and refugees from entering the USA.
Bandcamp CEO and founder Ethan Diamond uploaded a post to the site's blog to express his opinion on Trump's actions, entitled "This Friday, Stand with Bandcamp in Support of Immigrants/Basic Human Values,".Diamond calls Trump's actions "immoral" and states that they go against "the very spirit and foundation of America".
"And so all day this Friday, February 3rd, for any purchase you make on Bandcamp, we will be donating 100% of our share of the proceeds to the American Civil Liberties Union, who are working tirelessly to combat these discriminatory and unconstitutional actions."
The post also includes a playlist of bands and artists who come from Mexico and the banned countries, compiled by the music service. Diamond says it's "another way of showing solidarity with the immigrants and refugees".
An update on the post yesterday (February 2) claimed that since the initial announcement, "over 150 bands and labels have volunteered to donate their proceeds to the ACLU and other organizations as well."
