Ebbot Lundberg And The Indigo Children cover Lorde's 'Royals'

Listen to it here - it's been turned inside out and upside down

One great way of getting hammered on a Saturday night is to play catchphrase bingo whilst watching X Factor. You know, every time you hear something like, “You owned that stage” you take a slug of your favourite tipple. And then see if you can stand up by the time the first ad break rolls around. Well, make ours as a double as Ebbot Lundberg And The Indigo Children take Lorde’s ‘Royals’ and – ahem - make it their own.

The former frontman of the much-missed Soundtrack of Our Lives is back once again with his current band, The Indigo Children, and ahead of the autumn release of their album, they’ve elected to share this rambunctious and rollicking reading of the Lorde track. It’ll be released on August 18 on Akashic Records/Cosmos Music.

So what do we have here? The minimalist and electronic delivery of the original – along with the multi-tracked vocals and thick choruses – have been replaced with layers of acoustic guitars, cooing backing vocals and a sense of fun that suggests a gang of hippies going hog wild after imbibing several gallons of loopy juice round a campfire.

The new material comes after the release of last year’s album with The Indigo Children, For The Ages To Come. Since then, Lundberg has worked with producer and Garbage drummer Butch Vig’s project, Five Billion In Diamonds, where he provided the vocals on their first single, ‘Gravity Rules’.

No word on those autumn dates yet but you’ll hear about them just as soon as we do. In the meantime, you’ve got this to keep you busy.
