Neil Young revealed that he once used thousands of copies of his 1978 album Comes A Time to tile the roof of his barn.
After a mastering error on the album Young pulled thousands of copies before they hit stores.
Instead of simply throwing away the broken copies, by using them as roof tiles his unusual methods managed to give a new meaning to resourceful recycling.
Addressing fans at the South by Southwest festival in Texas, Young said: "The tape got damaged when it went through the airport or something. I had to go back and use a copy of the master - it was a copy, but it had better-sounding playback than the other one. I made a barn roof out of them. I used them as shingles."
