Bob Geldof has said that returning to the stage following the death of daughter Peaches was "cathartic".

The Boomtown Rats frontman and activist was performing at Plymouth's Volksfest last month, just a month after the tragic death of Peaches. He performed a headline slot, with the audience left surprised when he didn't dedicate a song to his late daughter. While there however, he did take the time to discuss his state of mind backstage.

"It's that thing people say - some other part of you comes out and I guess that's right. In that regard, it's very cathartic," he told the festival. "There's a lot of things going on in my head at the moment and you can just purge them and the crowd allow you to do that. I'll sleep well tonight which is the first time in weeks I've slept well."

Initially there were doubts as to whether Geldof was going to be able to perform with organisers telling the audience that he was 100% going to play. Before the show a spokesperson said: "Sir Bob is definitely here and is definitely going to play tonight."

The late Peaches Geldof was found dead at her home in Kent, 7 April 2014, with her cause of death later confirmed to related to narcotics.
