The family of late R&B star Aaliyah have expressed their disapproval at the planned biopic on the 'Rock The Boat' singer, saying they are not backing the project.
Yesterday (June 17), US channel Lifetime revealed plans to air Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, detailing the R&B singer's brief life, with Disney channel actress Zendaya Coleman in the lead role.
However, Aaliyah's family have now distanced themselves from the project in a series of posts from the official Aaliyah memorial Twitter account. "Unfortunately we cannot confirm the family is behind the project at this time," they wrote.
Fans we hear your comments and concerns !! unfortunately we cannot confirm the family is behind the project at this time

However ,we do ask that you are respectful to the artist playing the role, for they may not fully have or know the details about this role

Aaliyah shot to fame in the mid 90s with her R Kelly-produced debut album, Age Ain't Nothing But A Number. Her star continued to rise after working with the likes of Timbaland and Missy Elliott for her next two records. She died in a plane crash in 2001 at the age of 22.
