Ed Sheeran's X is set to break the 2014 record for first week sales according to the midweek charts.
This is the second time that the bar has been raised in a month, as Coldplay set the previous record in June with 168,000 copies of their Ghost Stories album sold. According to The Official Charts Company, Sheeran has already sold 100,000 copies of X, which puts him on course to nail the fastest selling album of the year (so far).
Much of the top ten albums chart remains the same with Kasabian at No. 5 ahead of their headline set at Glastonbury this weekend. Mastodon are the only new entry at the moment coming in at No.7 with their great psychadelic riff-based record Once More 'Round the Sun.
