Australia's Big Day Out festival has been cancelled for 2015 - but organisers have promised it will be back.
C3 Presents confirmed today that the long-running festival won't be taking place in Australia or New Zealand next year, with no set date for its return. However, C3 co-founder told Billboard: "We love Australia and BDO, and we will be back."
It was confirmed earlier this year by promoters that the event would not return to Perth in 2015 due to poor ticket sales.
2014's festival was plagued by problems. Blur pulled out of their headlining set days before, blaming "constantly shifting goalposts and challenging conditions of the organisers" in response to rumours they didn't want to play alongside Pearl Jam and Arcade Fire.
2014's event also saw a loss of $15 million. Its promoter, AJ Maddah, is now reported to have sold his share of the company to C3.
Big Day Out started life as a one-day event in 1992, playing host to the likes of Nirvana, Violent Femmes and 10,000 fans. The show quickly expanded, making stops in other cities in Australia the next year.
Artists such as Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails, The Strokes, Muse, The Prodigy and Metallica have all played at the festival over the years.
