Gerry Goffin, the genius songwriter behind hits like 'Savin All My Love For You', 'The Loco-motion', 'Natural Woman' and countless more, has died - aged 75.
He was famed for his knack of hit-writing, after penning seven Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers, and a total of 59 Top 40 hits. He was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990.
Goffin's first wife and songwriting partner Carole King broke the news via Facebook, posting: "Gerry Goffin 1939-2014. There are no words."
In a statement, King called Goffin: "my first love. He had a profound impact on my life and the rest of the world. Gerry was a good man and a dynamic force, whose words and creative influence will resonate for generations to come."
She added: "His words expressed what so many people were feeling but didn't know how to say,"
'The Loco-motion' was penned by Goffin and King in 1962, before Kylie Minogue revisited the track 1987, launching her from TV show Neighbours into a pop career at the age of just 19.
"As The Loco-motion was the song that kick-started my music career, thank you Gerry Goffin for your amazing work and the musical legacy you leave," said Kylie in a statement.
It has been reported he died early on Thursday 19 June, 2014 at his home in Los Angeles
