An NBC mini-series based on the lives of The Beatles reportedly does not have the rights to use any of their music, or their likeness.
News of the eight-part NBC series, which will be written by The Tudors producer Michael Hirst, was revealed last week.
However it seems that the show might have suffered an early setback, as according to chaiman of Sony/ATV, who published all but six of John Lennon and Paul McCartney's Beatles compositions, they are yet to secure the rights to their songs or their likeness.
Speaking to Billboard, Marty Bandier said: "About six months ago, we were working with Sony Pictures TV on a show centered around the journey of the Beatles, and at one point we were talking about working with Baz Luhrmann.
"We hadn't taken the next step, which is to reach out to the Beatles. The proposal is still on the table."

He continued: "NBC couldn't produce a show without the songs, and we can't produce a show without approaching The Beatles for their likeness rights."
It's unclear whether or not the show will go ahead if HBO fail to secure rights to The Beatles' music, which is notoriously expensive.
