Kanye West has just won a lawsuit against the creators of parody currency, Coinye Bitcoin.
The lawsuit began in January, when West's lawyers issued the anonymous creators of the parody currency with a cease-and-desist letter. The letter cited 'gimmic'k infringement and demands that the coding service hand over their website and deactivate any social media accounts associated with it.
After being told to take the cryptocurrency down, the group dropped "West" from the name and replaced the picture of Kanye with a "half-man, half-fish hybrid who is wearing sunglasses." This image is derived from the South Park episode that mocks West and his personality.
NBC reports that West's lawyers subsequently filed a trademark-infringement lawsuit which led to the creators of Coinye backing down. The unknown creators of the currency then posted a message to their website saying: "Coinye is dead. You win, Kanye."
One of the defendants, Robbie Hontele, told Ars Technica: "I'm not really supposed to talk about it, but I guess it's a great way to end a silly suit. I'm happy to see that blockchain [the world's largest bitcoin wallet] is not mentioned in the verdict and that the settlement has been made without any admission of wrongdoing. I will be celebrating tonight."
West recently revealed in an interview with GQ that new music from his Yeezus follow-up should be heard soon, stating that a taste of new music would be coming in the "next couple of weeks."
