Johnny Depp will feature on a forthcoming album based around the ‘lost’ lyrics of Bob Dylan.

Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford, Jim James of My Morning Jacket and many more will also feature on Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes, which has been produced by T Bone Burnett.

It has been revealed that Depp ended up on the record after visiting Los Angeles’ Capitol Studios to watch rehearsals, a trip which ended in the actor playing guitar on one song titled ‘Kansas City’.

The album will be released in Autumn and will feature two dozen unreleased Dylan songs, with lyrics drawn from the singer’s 1967 ‘Basement Tapes’ sessions.

Filmmaker Sam Jones, who is directing a documentary to accompany the record commented on the release. "The discovery of these previously unknown Bob Dylan songs that were thought lost since 1967 is the stuff of Hollywood fiction and a find of truly historical proportions."

"It is a unique opportunity to film T Bone and these great artists as they collaborate with a young Bob Dylan, and each other, to create new songs and recordings. These days and nights in the studio have been nothing less than magical.”

This album won’t be Depp’s first foray into the musical world, with the actor joining the likes of Aerosmith, The Black Keys, Willy Nelson and Marilyn Manson on stage in the past.
