Jake Bugg has revealed that he received a phone call from his hero Don McLean five years after leaving a fan message on his website.
The singer was being interviewed by Zane Lowe for MTV's Soundchain, during which the pair discussed some of Bugg's biggest heroes.
As it turns out, one of those heroes - Don McLean - telephoned Bugg recently thanks to a message left on his website. "When I was young there was a place on his website where you used to be able to leave little messages on email," Bugg said.
He continued: "It would say 'Don can't reply to anything.' Six months ago, the guy who ran the website, who's British, got in touch and said 'I've just been cleaning out the inbox and found your message from 5 years ago' and gave me [Don's] number.
"I gave him a call and it went straight to answerphone, so I was just saying 'Hello, the guy who ran your website gave me your number.' Then I realised I hadn’t left my number, so I rang back and couldn’t hear anything and realised my headphones were plugged into my phone. So I rang back a third time. Then his wife rings me the next week: 'Yeah, got your message. Not quite sure what you said but he’s back next week' and then he gave me a call.
"It was pretty mad. Woke me up. He spoke for about 40 minutes. I spoke for about one minute. He was giving me this advice like, 'Don’t get married'. It was pretty crazy."
