To mark their 40th anniversary of their single Killer Queen, Queen have unveiled their own branded premium vodka.
The launch of the Stoli spirit marked the release of the multi-platinum single of the same name, which appeared on the 1974 album, Sheer Heart Attack.
Touted as a tribute to the late great Freddie Mercury, guitarist and friend of the badgers, Brian May said: “Freddie loved vodka and used to carry a dry ice cooler full of vodka with him on tour. We know he would have approved.”
On a recent visit to the Stoli vodka plant in Latvia, May described the factory as a “Willy Wonka chocolate factory for adults”.
Killer Queen vodka is 40% ABV (80 proof) and will launch in UK on 17 September 17th from killerqueenvodka.com.
Queen are the latest in a long line of artists dipping a toe in the lucrative alcohol market, following the lead of Willie Nelson's Old Whiskey River Bourbon, Vince Neil's Tatuado Tequila, Marilyn Manson's Mansinthe, The Rolling Stones’ Forty Licks Merlot and Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon Cabernet Sauvignon. The Grateful Dead have also launched their own wine but sadly it's not named The Grateful Red.
Manchester’s Elbow called time on their premium session bitter – named Build a Rocket Boys! – in March this year, having launched it back in 2011. Sales from the branded ale raised over £40,000 for the Oxfam East Africa appeal.
