Guided by Voices have announced their split, and cancelled all future shows.
The American indie rock outfit were due to play another two months of dates, but they announced on their website that these would no longer go ahead:
"Guided By Voices has come to an end. With four years of great shows and six killer albums, it was a hell of a comeback run. The remaining shows in the next two months are unfortunately cancelled. Our sincere apologies to those that have purchased tickets and made travel plans. Thanks to everyone who has supported GBV."
This is not the first split for the band, who first broke up ten years ago in 2004. Then in 2010, Matador Records announced that the "Classic '93–'96 Lineup" would reunite.
Subsequent albums included Cool Planet, Motivational Jumpsuit, English Little League, The Bears for Lunch, Class Clowns Spot a UFO, and Let's Go Eat the Factory.
Despite the release of plenty of albums in their four years back together, a bitter email exchange between frontman Robert Pollard and drummer Kevin Fennell, made public last October, revealed a hostility relationship.
"Most people would like to know who the fuck you think you are," said one email from Pollard to Fennell. "The so-called fucking Classic line-up was a laugh to begin with. You're an amateur, you play too fast (which is the sign of an amateur). I've asked you to slow down and get behind the music but I can tell that you don't know what I'm even talking about. Do not delude yourself, Kevin, that people gave a shit who was behind that drum kit."
