Kele Okereke has opened up about new album Trick, saying that he wrote it to be "the complete opposite" to Bloc Party's more "abrasive" sound.

Speaking to Billboard, he revealed the ambient sounds of the follow up to 2010's The Boxer, were created to balance out the heavier sounds of Bloc Party's last album Four. He goes on to name his former band's album as the main galvanising influence on Trick.

“I feel like you become more confident in every record you make,” Okereke told Billboard. “Four was a very abrasive rock album, and the whole time we were touring that record, I had started to work on this record, Trick, because I felt that I needed something that was the complete opposite of that, sonically and emotionally. I felt that it needed to be something a lot more intimate and immersive.”

Trick will be released on 13 October through Kele's own Lilac Records label, featuring the singles 'Coast' and 'Doubt'.

Okereke will also be playing a short series of dates in November, for more information and tickets click here.
