AC/DC's Malcolm Young is reportedly receiving full-time treatment for dementia.

The band announced a new album earlier this week, and also revealed that their guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young would be retiring from the band. A statement revealing the news read: "Unfortunately, due to the nature of Malcolm’s condition, he will not be returning to the band."

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Young is suffering from dementia and has been moved into full-time care in Sydney. The paper quotes a 'family connection' as saying, "If you were in the room with [Young] and walked out, then came back in one minute later, he wouldn't remember who you are."

Malcolm founded AC/DC along with his brother in 1973, and has was a permanent fixture of the rock band for over 40 years.

AC/DC's new album Rock or Bust, their first in six years and first without Malcolm Young, is set for release on 1 December.
