The X Factor final took place this weekend, but it scraped the lowest ratings for a final since the show's first ever series in 2004.
Saturday's episode of the ITV talent show (which, FYI, was won by Ben Haenow) was watched by 8.4 million people, including those using catch-up services. IN 2010, when Matt Cardle won, the final was watched by 14.1 million.
As The Telegraph reports, even Simon Cowell's decision to resurrect both himself and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (formerly Cole) as judges failed to improve the show's ratings.
Those hoping the show will die an imminent death will have to wait until at least 2016 though, as Cowell recently signed a £10 million three-year deal with ITV.
He told The Guardian last week that he plans to change the show significantly: "I have a vision in my head of what it should be and what the audience will respond to, and I think ITV are up for a change as well. It is a show I would love to be on."
The show's influence did still manage to force Mark Ronson to rush-release his latest single last week however, after Fleur East's cover of 'Uptown Funk' reached No.1 on iTunes.
