Sam Smith's debut album In the Lonely Hour has gone platinum and sold over 1 million copies in the US.
As Billbord reports, despite fears that 2014 would mark the end of the platinum album, In The Lonely Hour is the third album to sell more than a million copies in 2014. It follows on from the Frozen soundtrack (3.4 million) and Taylor Swift's 1989 (3 million) but Smith's LP isthe biggest selling debut album of the year.
Fresh from his considerable success at the Grammys - with six nominations, including one of each of the four major categories - Smith recently also recorded a mournful take on a festive favourite.
