Snapchat may be planning to launch a new music service, leaked emails from the Sony Hacking scandal have revealed.

As TechCrunch and Music Week report, Snapchat has been in discussions for some time to move into the music business, with Sony Music's Michael Lyton talking about the potential of the company.

What's clear however, is that things have progressed quickly. In June Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel met with Global Digital Business President Dennis Kooker and told him that  “every music service in the market is shit and he wants to be a curator".

Kooker also said Spiegel wanted to actively participate in promoting artists but “backed off a bit from being a record label”. According to the emails, meetings with LA Reid and Lou Adler's son Manny Adler were also set to tak place.

The leaked emails also discuss a potential relationship with Vevo. President Rio Caraeff was reportedly interested in the idea of Snapchat users watching music videos alongside Stories from fellow users. The deal faltered however when Spiegel demanded 40% gross.

Whether any of this proposed partnerships will now ever see the light of day remains to be seen. However, with Snapchat claiming over 100 million active users per month it wouldn't be suprising to hear more music industry deals in 2015.
