Ed Sheeran will relaunch VH1's Storytellers series with an exclusive gig in Ireland.
It will be the first TV show in three years from VH1 Storytellers, whose previous participants include David Bowie, Elton John, Kanye West, Foo Fighters, Johnny Cash and Tom Waits. In a change from the previous format the show will be broadcast live.
Sheeran will be performing and discussing the maning behind his lyrics at Whelan's (capacity 450) which will be probably the smallest gig he'll perform at in 2015.
As Rolling Stone reports, Sheeran picked the venue as it was the place where he watched Damien Rice perform over ten years ago. "It's amazing to come back to perform at a place that means so much to me personally," said Sheeran. "I was only about 11 or 12 years old when I saw Damien [Rice] play at Whelan’s, and that night literally changed my life. The time he spent talking with me after the show made all the difference. It inspired me in a way that I only hope to do for someone else."
Sheeran is set for three nights at the mammoth Wembley Stadium [capacity: 90,000 per night] later this summer, including three support acts per evening. "I actually sorted the support acts before I'd even put (the tickets) on sale," he said. "I never want to play to someone else's crowd, I want my crowd to feel like they have a treat - I'm saying 'here's a wicked support act that you can watch, that you didn't know was going to be there'. It's more of a surprise."
Sheeran added: "I've got three acts every day, and they're all multi-platinum... They're all great, they're all really, really good. Some of them have played Wembley before. Most of them are arena [level]."
Ed Sheeran will play Wembley Stadium on 10, 11 and 12 July. Buy tickets here.
