Everyone loves a good side project. More often than not it can be an opportunity to see a huge music star up close and doing something closer to his or her heart. Or it could be a runaway success in it's own right, created from music that is just as, if not more impressive than the band from which the artist in question began.
2014 has seen a wealth of such side projects coming to the forefront, with many bands killing the time in between releases by writing yet more material. These are our picks for the year so far, with all of them releasing, or having released albums that have huge potential to land within the best of the year.
