The company beat Record Store Day to top-spot

Urban Outfitters has revealed it sells more vinyl than any other store in the world, which may shock and upset some purists.
The chief adminstator for the brand, Calvin Hollinger, released the findings to Buzzfeed this week saying, “Music is very, very important to the Urban customer… In fact, we are the world’s number one vinyl seller.”
Although this news seems nothing short of terrifying, it's worth noting that in 2012, 65% of all record sales still came from independent record stores. Urban Outfitters are simply the most corporate, and as one of the only giant retailers that stock vinyl, hold considerable power.
The company attribute their success to their unique sales model in which they rent out their shelves to an assortment of over 100 vendors. This allows them to hand-pick the records that make it into the store without having to pay any of the vendors.
The vinyl industry has unexpectedly boomed over the last couple of years with sales of over 6.1 million in 2013 and more set for this year.
