No doubt you’ll have heard of these guys already. If we mentioned that they’ve been supporting the likes of Fall Out Boy and Gym Class Heroes that should give you some idea about the self-deprecating high-school twaddle that these guys are pedalling. New single ‘Hey There Delilah’ is actually far from new first being released over two years ago and which the record company have been pumping into the mainstream. It’s also a massively incongruous track, actually seeming quite heartfelt and tender compared to the overly stylised codswallop of the rest of the album. Track titles like ‘Hate (I Really Don’t Like You)’, ‘Write You A Song’ and ‘So Damn Clever’ should give some indication.
Ultimately derivative of Jimmy Eat World, with a splash of Weezer, add more than a healthy share of Wheatus, filter through Fall Out Boy and you’ll be some way to understanding what the band sound like. Basically try to imagine a void where some thought provoking music should be and you’re there. But they’ve played the warped tour dontcha know? Yeah and they picked up hundreds of clueless high school MySpace users with a fairly tenuous grasp on reality and grammar along the way, you know the kind who truly don’t understand how to spell ‘are’ or ‘you’. Tough stuff.
Still they’ve picked up nearly five hundred thousand of these bimbos, so it’s quite likely we’ll be seeing a bit more of the guys around, and by the end it’s really hard to muster any kind of opinion on a band who lack any substance whatsoever.
In the end it’s probably best off letting the band explain it in their own words, as the song goes, ‘Hate is a strong word, but I really really really don’t like you.’
