Gracing the stage in black and glimmering gold, Swedish duo First Aid Kit brought their nostalgic folk-pop charm to the Eventim Apollo, for their biggest headline to date on the finale of their UK tour. “Oh my God! We’re here Klara!” Johanna beams to her sister, and despite their disbelief, First Aid Kit exceed all expectations.
The glamorous golden duo are a far cry from the girls in the woods covering Fleet Foxes for a grainy video on YouTube. With Klara on guitar, Johanna on keyboards and their closely knitted harmonies, their unmistakable vocals leap through their melodies from all three albums. 'My Silver Lining' is met with enthusiasm and 'Wolf' heartily sung back at them – the audience are certainly long standing fans.
The duo marvel at how a few years ago they supported Jack White in the very same venue, but now headlining their own show, they cover a fun and bouncier version of 'Love Interruption'.
The pair also demonstrate their pure talent, as they launch into an a cappella version of 'Ghost Town'. The sheer strength of their voices allows them to fill up the whole venue. It's a striking moment as hundreds join in with the tender sing-along and as they finish, there's a noticeable moment of stunned silence before the audience erupt.
First Aid Kit manage to bring forth pop and indie elements to their folk sound which result in a truly enjoyable experience. They are fantastic songwriters and like all the best country singers, they are brilliant storytellers, and their emotive tracks are more poignant live than on record. The set is simply stunning: and with a BRIT nomination under their belt, the future looks golden for Klara and Johanna.
