Wakefield’s finest came to rock North London last night as the Jarman brothers brought with them crunchy guitar riffs and a vendetta against the world, throwing track after track into a happy-go-lucky crowd.
The Cribs always put on a special show each and every time they appear on stage, whether it be in a sweaty festival tent or an compact and intimate gig. Last night at the Electric Ballroom was all but an exception.
Leaping into ‘Mirror Kissers’ saw an immediate fan favourite bring the rapture that would stick around for the entire show. Amongst the old came the new as Ryan introduced new track ‘Burning for No One’ and the first track from For All My Sisters set to be released in the UK on 23 March.
“I hate it when people don’t jump around to songs they don’t know, so just go fucking nuts for this one," snarls Ryan. Just as the trio promised, the songs reflect a deeper melodic embrace from the likes of earlier album Ignore the Ignorant. With such a prolific arsenal of tracks to include, it’s almost impossible to include every fan favourite, but the Jarmans did one hell of a job to do their best.
The boys flaunted tracks across all five of their albums, from the screeching microphones in ‘Hey Scenesters!’ to the despondent riff of ‘Cheat On Me’. ‘City of Bugs’ saw the close of the night, as guitars fed back into themselves shrieking in ear-piercing pitches as the boys left the stage.
Surprisingly, they didn’t make a return even with a handful of Cribs classics yet to be played, but that says it all for how incredible their explosive ten-year career has been. The audience had been given their lo-fi fix for the night and they could do all but complain.
