It's finally here. After three years of waiting, Grimes has released the follow-up to Visions, titled Art Angels - and it's available for streaming right now.
This release marks Grimes' (real name Claire Boucher) fourth full-length studio album following 2012's Visions. This particular release has been highly anticipated on the basis that after months of recording, Grimes decided to scrap her entire culminated work and start anew.
The album is 15-tracks long and features the amazing 'Flesh Without Blood' that was released last week. What's also interesting is the alternative and reworked version of 'Realiti', a demo version of which was released earlier this year.
Speaking to Q, Grimes described the plot behind 'Kill V Maim', which is written from the perspective of Al Pacino's character in the classic and totally non-synth poppy, Godfather pt 2. In Grimes' track, however, "he’s a vampire who can switch gender and travel through space" - it's pretty standard stuff.
Another track on the album, the singer told Dazed and Confused, follows "the perspective of a butterfly in the Amazon as people are cutting down trees; there’s a song that’s from the perspective of angels who are polluted, so they’re crying polluted tears.”
There's a thematic density that's always been prevalent in Grimes' music, however, from what we've heard, the music itself pushes Grimes' production abilities to territories they've not yet ventured to. You can stream the album on Spotify or Apple Music, if that's your thing, right now.
