Crank the stereo loud, BL▲CK▲SH have unveiled their video to exhilarating, mesmeric new single 'Black Witch'. It sounds like Andrew Weatherall just got ahold of a desert rock/kraut band with a taste for Black Sabbath and Hawkwind riffs - you can listen to it first on Gigwise below
Given the band are made up of a space rock producer, an acid house pioneer, a dark lord of the DnB club scene, and are from Birmingham (the birthplace of heavy metal) - it shows how brilliant and natural this coming together of heavy guitar grooves and rave music is. It's a brilliant, genius combination.
The band are relatively new as their debut EP was released on Friday (3 December) so not much is known about them apart from their ability to make an inspired, original EP that makes them shine out as one of the best new bands about.
'Black Witch' is a highlight of this record and comes in at over nine minutes, but similar to the message in the line "losing all sense of time and space', which is growled out on the mic in the song, the listening breezes by without causing attention to waver - even as a track this long.
To get the EP, you can buy a limited edited run of only 333 individually numbered 12" red splatter vinyls packaged in a die cut, hand assembled, blacker then black sleeve with glow in the dark spine and front cover logo. Each vinyl copy comes with a wrap of “black ash” from the centre of the earth. (Strictly not for human consumption !) Check here to order.
Meanwhile, the band headline a club show at Sensateria at Centrala, Digbeth, Birmingham on 10 December. Well worth a shout.
