Seasick Steve will be performing four headline shows in the UK this coming April.
This year has already seen Steve perform his biggest ever headline show at The SSE Arena, Wembley and achieve his 5th consecutive Top 10 album in the UK with his new album, which was released on 7 October.
These dates in Newcastle, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Leeds, will be Steve’s first headline shows since his sold out UK tour in April 2015.
Live, Seasick Steve is brilliantly entertaining and members in his band include Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones - which goes to show just how respected this bluesmaster is.
To cap off what has been an amazing year for Steve, he has also been announced as a guest performer on this year’s 'Jools Holland’s Hootenanny' which broadcasts on New Year’s Eve on BBC2, which takes him back to where it all started 10 years ago.
The musician’s inaugural performance on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny back in 2006 launched him - and his album Dog House Music - into the limelight overnight.
But according to an unauthorised biography by Mathew Wright he is not the untutored hobo blues player from Mississippi he presented himself as then. In fact, he's a Californian session musician who had produced Modest Mouse’s debut album and added ten years to his age to add mustique and romatnicms to his image.
The Guardian ran a piece about this that Brooklyn Vegan claims was heavy on the exposed angle.
The Vegan say: "it was always apparent that Seasick Steve was playing something of a character, although the fact that he lied about his age and homelessness status might make that a higher degree of artifice than some are comfortable with. Either way, the man’s obviously got an interesting tale, just maybe slightly different than what we might have thought it was. And good on this music lifer to get some success late in life, even if it means he did a bit of embellishing."
Elsewhere, Steve will release a new song on Friday 16 December. This is a cover version of "Abraham, Martin And John", which he opened his shows with on the recent tour across Europe. He said: "I sang this song on my last tour, and a lot of you asked me to record it, so anyways ... here it is, I hope you like it!' Merry Christmas from Steve"
