Hotly-tipped South-London five-piece, Shame, have shared their first ever music ‘Gold Dust’. Watch it on Gigwise below.
The band share a similar twisted aesthetic, reputation for feral live performances as fellow rock 'n' roll tearaways Fat White Family. But they're no direct pastiche of the recent Domino signees.
Their weighty basslines show crossover to the visceral instrumentation of seminal post-punk band The Fall, and there's nods to The Stooges. Moreover, they seem spirited in a deeply troubled, yet exciting way that can only come from digging up the most personal feelings they can muster - a trait they share with John Lydon.
Of 'Gold Dust' singer Charlie Steen said to Gigwise: “It tells the story of a woman who acts not out of necessity, but out of the dark and twisted desire for control and luxury. Ambitions of the selfish and exploitation of the weak”.
With lyrics, “tongue touches the hole, his wife's at work and his kids are at school, she feels so dirty, she knows that it's wrong, but she feels so good in Louis Vuitton” it is evident that these boys don’t hesitate with their explicit descriptions.
In terms of the video, the band sum up the concept perfectly: “It's taking the piss out of every element of a traditional music video”, with filmmaker Levi adding “the 'Gold Hole' video is about how being a narcissist can mess up a song, the pretty evil face of something killing the content of it’s parts.”
Shame are a band that are in your face from the word go; there is no holding back. They're possessed by frenzy-fuelled grunge and destined for great things. You'll be seeing a lot more of these guys in 2017.
