Watch the new video from Berlin-based songwriter Fil Bo Riva as it premieres here on Gigwise. The track is called ‘Franzis’ and is one of the stand out songs from his recent EP, ‘If You're Right, It's Alright’.
Something of a contemporary flâneur, Fil has moved throughout Europe’s most historicised cities for the best part of his life, growing up between Dublin and Rome, and working in Munich and Madrid before finding his artistic haunt busking on the funereal streets of Berlin. But even though his songs may have been born in Germany’s capital, they couldn’t sound much further from the pounding opiate-hinged clubs the metropolis has perhaps recently become most closely associated with.
As Fil takes to the stage, the video follows a multifarious cast of dancers through a lonely, nondescript Weinstube, perhaps in Berlin, maybe anywhere else in Germany. Like the song that soundtracks it, the video is in turns affectionate and romantic as it is playful and whimsical. Bo Riva may look a little like Jeff Buckley, but his vocals are gruff and sung through the hoarse tones of last night’s cigarettes, which make an interesting contrast to the crisp, melodic indie pop that he croons over.
Fil recently completed a tour across Europe supporting Joan As Policewoman, and is set to begin his own tour throughout Germany and Central Europe in January 2017 in support of his ‘If You're Right, It's Alright’ EP.
