US rap star Foxy Brown has asked to be released from prison in order to receive treatment for a hearing problem.
Brown faces “imminent harm to her hearing” if she is not allowed to attend a clinic in Los Angeles, her Lawyer told Manhattan's state Supreme Court.
The rap star, who is currently serving a year long sentence for violating a probation, first announced that she was suffering from hearing problems during a court appearance in 2004.
Brown's lawyer, Laura Dilimetin, says that the performer could go deaf if she is not able to have an electronic ear implant repaired.
Yesterday (January 17th), Supreme Court Justice Melissa Jackson said that she wanted proof of the severity of Brown’s condition before deciding whether her sentence could be amended.
A District Attorney official objected to Brown being allowed to travel across America for the procedure, saying that she had no right to choose where to receive treatment while she was a prison inmate.
As she left court yesterday, Brown pleaded with the judge, saying that she had “too much talent to throw it away".
She was sentenced to a year in prison last September.
