Al Pacino is set to play Phil Spector in a biopic about the music producer's life, it has been revealed.
The as-yet-untitled HBO production will tell Spector's story from his development of the Wall of Sound recording technique in the 1960s to his recent imprisonment for murder.
Author David Mamet will write and direct the film, while Rain Man director Barry Levinson will produce, reports the New York Times.
Speaking of Pacino's involvement, a spokesperson said: “He just saw a very interesting character to play, and he likes the sensibility of David and Barry.”
Spector, who worked with the likes of The Beatles, was jailed last year for the 2003 murder of B-movie actress Lana Clarkson.
