Lars Ulrich has responded to critics of Metallica's headline slot at this years Glastonbury festival.

Speaking to Metal Hammer, Ulrich said simply that things had got more than a little out of hand, with petitions against their performance and other bands criticising their presence on the bill. He also said that they were thick skinned, but only to a point and that when it came to performing they were "fit for a fight".

"Glastonbury, it's like the holy grail in England and obviously we're respectful to that," he told the magazine. "Somebody sits there and talks about petitions or what some other guy says, there's a point where it sort of becomes ridiculous".

"We're fairly thick skinned and just kind of turn a blind eye to it and whatever you know. But obviously if Mick Jagger has something to say or Alex Turner or the very nice guys in Kasabian who I love - it's cool y'know. But at some point when there's some guy in some other band and I was like, huh, what? Who are you? At some point it just becomes a little ridiculous."

Speaking of the actual performance he said: "We're definitely on a roll and we're warmed up, loosened up, fit for fight and y'know, we're ready to go".
