David Letterman baited one of his favourite bands The Eagles to sue him after the band refused permission to use one of their tracks. Watch the video below.
The talkshow host promoted the Eagles’ concert at Madison Square Garden on Friday night’s edition of ‘Late Show’ and asked Paul Shaffer to play some Eagles music to celebrate. Letterman was then informed that they wouldn’t allow it, and subsequently poked fun at the famously litigious rockers.

Producers of the show asked the licensing team in charge of the Eagles’ catalogue if the CBS Orchestra would be allowed to perform some of their music to which they replied no. The producer said: “They have a flat 'no' policy for television.”
Eventually Letterman talks to some staff members behind-the-scenes and asks: “So if we play an Eagles song, we’d get sued, correct?”
After discussing this for around five minutes the host concluded: “You know what? I’m not that interested anymore.” Gigwise's suggestion? Letterman might be better off booking the significantly less expensive Eagulls from Leeds instead.
