Savages frontwoman Jehnny Beth has hit out at festivals that put VIP ticketholders closer to the stage, claiming it facilitates "a capitalist attitude when music should be for everyone."
In a post on her personal Tumblr page, Beth calls out London festival British Summertime in particular, as well as a festival in Istanbul the group recently played with Portishead.
Beth explains her argument stems from seeing Soundgarden in Hyde Park earlier this summer, where she was stopped by a barrier and only let into a certain area closer to the stage because she had a VIP pass.
Festivals such as British Summertime operate a system which allows fans to pay for premium tickets to stand in an area closer to the stage, however this hasn't been without it's problems as many fans have simply jumped the barrier particularly during The Libertines' raucous headline slot in July.
"Rock music is here to bring people together, rich and poor, young and old." Beth argues, "Don’t let the fuckers make you pay more for a decent spot in the field."
