Former LCD Soundsystem frontman turned all-round renaissance man James Murphy has taken another left-turn during his 'retirement' - this time launching a project to turn data from the US Open Tennis tournament into 400 hours of music for some reason.

In between directing his own movie, managing innovative record label DFA, taking his incredble Despacio soundsystem around the world with 2ManyDJs, penning the score for Noah Baumbach's forthcoming movie While We're Young, attempting to make all of the turnstiles on the NYC subway play a tune and selling his own signature coffee, he's found the time to launch his latest ambitious project.

Teaming up with IBM and the U.S. Open (which is happening now) Murphy will be using raw data from tennis matches to generate an algorithm to turn each match into a unique song - culminating in other 400 hours of music.

Does your brain hurt? Let James attempt to explain it in the trailer below
