Cee-Lo Green has made headlines after making controversial comments giving his definition of rape, seemingly claiming that it only counts if the victim is conscious and remembers.
Last week, the musician was sentenced to three years of probation and 45 days of community service after pleading no contest to felony ecstasy possession. Green was accused of 'furnishing' ecstasy to a woman during a 2012 dinner in Los Angeles, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Green is said to have had sex with the woman after giving her the ecstasy, but has maintained that it was entirely consensual.
Then, as Billboard reports, Green then went on to define rape on Twitter. The following Tweets have since been deleted:
"People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!"
"If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent,"
When asked if he deleted the Tweets, he replied: "yes I did. I will not allow that negative energy to loiter on my time line u still got it so keep it! I'm deleting this too"
He went on to apologise, in a way: "Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context."
"I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it."
"...was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I'd never condone the harm of any women. Thank you."
Cee-Lo Green's followup to his album The Lady Killer was set to be released this year but has been delayed for the forseeable future.
