Prince's 3RDEYEGIRL have issued a statement after fans queued for 12 hours in the rain outside a possible show in Toronto.
The confusion began, according to Billboard, when the band tweeted “4th day of November, we need a purple high: OTNOROT CALLING. . . ”. Although the tweet was quickly deleted many fans remained convinced a secret show was set to occur, with even major ticket sites apparently listing a Prince show on that date.
As the day progressed, photos of the 3RDEYEGIRL drum kit were posted on their account and furniture and flowers were seen going into Massey Hall. The venue even put out barricades to keep the crowd in order.
As the weather worsened, fans were told at 3 30pm that there would not be a Prince and 3RDEYEGIRL show but some remained until 6pm in case the box office opened.
Eventually Live Nation tweeted: "In response to inquiries, we can confirm that Prince will not be performing at @masseyhall tonight."
The explanation given was that: "Our technical crew is set up in Toronto to rehearse lighting and sound for possible future performances. As Live Nation and Massey Hall announced earlier today, there is not a sceduled performance tonight; there was never confirmation of a show."
Both Prince and 3RDEYEGIRL's new album Plectrumelectrum and Art Official Age are both out now. When asked about what they were working on next Hannah Ford told Gigwise: "We're always working on new material. We're always rehearsing and jamming so it stays fresh. A lot of what the last few months have been is preparation for the album, talking about how to release it, what we want to do. Now we're preparing for what happens next."
