Noel Gallagher has had to turn down the chance to produce The Libertines' new album, despite personal requests from the band.
The Libertines are said to be making good progress on their long-awaited third album, after Carl Barat joined Pete Doherty during his successful period at a rehab in Thailand to work on songs together.
Gearing up for the release of his debut album with The Jackals, Barat admitted that he "would love" for the Oasis turned solo star to be behind the desk of the Libs' next record.
"I'm going to email Noel Gallagher," Barat told NME. "I know he's really busy, but hopefully he's got a bit of time for the Libertines who love him so...Noel's Noel, isn't he? I'd love to work with him. He's hilarious, but he has such clarity of vision as well. That's something the Libertines could certainly use."
However Gallagher has responded, saying that he's unable to due to travel and tour commitments.
"We've exchanged a few emails but unfortunately they want to do it in Thailand," Gallagher said. "With the best will in the world, I'm on tour and I can't do it. I would genuinely love to be involved but they're going to do it in Thailand and I can't be in Thailand."
When pushed for advice to give to The Libertines before they head into the studio: "As long as they don't overthink it, they'll be alright."
Both The Libertines and Gallagher are among the rumoured acts to top the bill at Glastonbury and/or Reading and Leeds, with both acts' festival seasons taking shape nicely. The Libertines are headlining T In The Park while Noel Gallagher is headlining London's Calling Festival.
