Music industry claim moral right to domain name
The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) have declared their interest in giving the rights to '.music' to the music industry, as apposed to names such as Google and Amazon whom have also staked a claim.
In 2011, the amount of global top-level domain names was drastically increased to include subjects such as the disputed '.music'. The right to these domains was then applied for by the interested parties in the shape of 360 page long applications and $185,000.
A2IM president Rich Bengloff claims the music industries calim to the domain to be more about concern for the industry whereas Google or Amazon are simply looking to "maximize revenue".
However, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers have made it clear it could come down to a highest bidder wins situation, where Google or Amazon would more than likely be victorious.
