FKA twigs has unveiled a brand new song, 'Figure 8', which she says was written during a period in her life where she "just felt like everything was shattering." Listen to it below.
The singer's debut album, LP1, was released almost exactly a year ago, and - with singles including 'Two Weeks', 'Pendulum' and 'Video Girl' - was nominated for both a Mercury and a Grammy.
Now, on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio Show, the singer has revealed her new track, 'Figure 8'. "I wrote it after I finished LP1, and it's called 'Figure 8' because obviously 8 represents eternity, and I was just feeling actually quite sad and I was feeling a bit lost..." she told Zane Lowe, going on to explain that she met a vogue dancer who taught her that every single hand movement when vogueing is a figure of eight.
She continued, "I just felt like at any minute everything in my life would just completely fall apart... There was another side of me that just felt like everything was shatttering. It's such a shock going on tour."
The song itself is characteristically dark and glitchy, but the lighter shades of LP1 have been replaced with urgent, whispered samples and sound effects. Towards the end, the song begins to deconstruct itself.
