Meanwhile, St Vincent delivered one of the most impressive appearances of the night, playing single 'Digital Witness' from her critically-acclaimed self-titled album in a fevered, choreographed performance atop a massive pyramid.

Musical icons Brian Eno and Karl Hyde also performed 'Daddy's Car', alongside hotly-tipped newcomer George Ezra who played 'Budapest'.

An extended version of the episode with more performances from all artists will air on BBC Two on Friday 16 May at 11.05pm, while next week's show will see performances from Kelis, Ray Lamontagne, Ed Sheeran, White Denim and Chrissie Hynde.
