Leeds-based duo The Horn The Hunt have this week released one of the most atmospheric debut albums of 2014 so far. Listen to their brilliant, melancholic and hugely inventive Terrifidella below.
Veering from elements of shoegaze, indie and pop, the band manage to evoke almost Lynchian levels of atmosphere with their hazy, distorted guitars and powerful production courtesy of Joseph Osborne, while frontwoman Clare Carter's hugely emotive vocals switch easily from delicate and elfish to raucous and powerful in a heartbeat. It is an impressive and powerful album, and is available to buy now. Listen to an exclusive stream of the album below.
"This album initially began as an experiment, but now it's finished we think it's like a document that shows us discovering our true sound," says Carter of Terrifidella. "We wanted to try making an album with a drummer instead of programmed beats and with less synths and more guitar. So in a sense it's quite a stripped back record with very little gloss. This was to try and communicate the kind of place I was inhabiting in my head. I felt like I was in this desert with strong winds, bleached wood and bones and cacti.
"It's a bit like our take on a wild-west soundtrack; about a girl that's wandered off into a desert and the landscape is telling her lots of different stories."
Terrafidella is available to purchase on Bandcamp now. Click here to buy.
